La Horse Racing Division a délivré 20 licences d’entraîneurs pour la saison 2023. Cette information a été communiqué à l’Assemblée nationale mardi. Deux licences avaient été livrées aux étrangers qui sont de nationalités sud-africaines. Une liste de tous les candidats qui avait postulés et participés à l’examen d’entraineurs de chevaux organisé par la HRD en 2022 et 2023 respectivement, y compris les noms de ceux qui ont réussi les examens, a été déposé à l’AN.
D’autres part, le Premier ministre, Pravind Jugnauth s’est attardé sur les mesures mises en place dans l’industrie hippique après les « damning observations (ndlr-Parry Report) regarding illegal and corrupt activities in the horseracing industry which were associated with an organised mafia that was being tolerated by certain institutions ». Il faisait allusion aux liens tissés entre les acteurs du turf et des trafiquants de drogue.
Le Premier ministre a cité des extraits du rapport de la Commission sur la drogue (Lam Shang Leen) et surtout sur la capacité des trafiquants à pénétrer les institutions. L’un des extrait cité est : « local drug mafia …are always miles ahead of the authorities in view of their innovative approach and financial support and capability to infiltrate various institutions and who seemed to know in advance what is in store for them before the enforcement agencies closed in on them”.
Pravind Jugnauth a aussi mis en avant le network qui existe entre plusieurs acteurs, comme stipulé dans le rapport de la commission. Il a cité un extrait : “In the meantime the drug traffickers have developed a very solid highly sophisticated network comprising of prison/police officers, customs officers, pharmacists, complacent doctors, bookmakers, casino owners, jockeys, money changers, financiers and lawyers. In remaining silent and not denouncing the real culprits in their neighbourhood, they become accomplices when they should have been the foremost line of the battalion to ward off the drug traffickers.”
